The Season has Come to an End

While some are waving goodbye, others are saying hello.

The Lady Chargers volleyball team ended their season when they lost at regionals, but can’t wait for next year to start.

While the seniors are leaving, the upcoming players plan to have another great season. Even though the season ended earlier than the girls had expected, they’re still satisfied with their team. This year has showed the girls what their weaknesses are, so they are hoping to improve on those spots next year.

“I was really sad to be leaving this year because volleyball was my life throughout all of high school and even before, so I am definitely going to miss playing and all the memories we made together throughout the year,” said Katie Bryant, varsity player. As a team, the girls are sad to be saying goodbye to their fellow teammates, especially since they’ve gotten so close with each other from playing on the court together. Volleyball has made the girls realize that they are more than just friends; they’re a family on and off the court.

The girls that are now juniors plan to also have another successful season next year when it’s their last year. The girls that are leaving this year agree that their last year was as they hoped it would be, and that’s what the upcoming players hope for as well. Paxton Gordon, varsity player, said, “Next year will be my last year playing for Bullitt East, but I just hope to have another great year and improve on our weaknesses.” The girls believe if they work on their weaknesses next season, they’ll be better than ever.

In their first round of regionals the girls lost to Butler causing their season to end early. Bryant said, “This year we were really close as a team and it was not so much as cliques like the years before. We were all friends, and it’s just awesome to be friends with all of your teammates. I just wish, though, that we would have gone further in regionals, but in the end I am satisfied with this year as a whole.” Lady Chargers were planning on going far in regionals, but believe they lost due to not playing hard enough.

Emily Miles, varsity player, said, “As a team we expected to win more games than we did, but as an individual I know that we could’ve won a few more games that we lost if we would have just pushed harder.” The girls’ lack of communication has caused them to lose games in the past, and it’s a huge factor in winning. Without communication the girls can’t really play as a team. Even though they have improved, the girls believe communication is still their main thing to work on. Some minor things they are trying to work on for next year is playing more as a team than as individuals and being fast on their feet.
