Comeback Season

Last night took an L but tonight I bounce back.

Last Friday, our football team faced Spencer County in the first game of the season. The team came out strong but faltered after half-time resulting in a loss of 19-16 Spencer County. Feeling discouraged, the team took time to reflect on the game and where they went wrong and how they can improve for their next game against North Bullitt. The team feels confident that they will shake out their first game jitters and focus on the season ahead of them.

Spencer County was a hard loss that was not expected by many players, coaches, or fans. “I was torn up. They gave us 24 hours to deal with what we were feeling but it took me all weekend, it was a game we should have won. The team feels the same way. We just didn’t come out and play our game,” senior outside linebacker Braxton Joslin said. Going into the game everyone had high expectations and was shocked when the game didn’t play out as expected. “I think we just didn’t execute in the plays we should have, and when we should have been making plays we just were falling apart in all aspects,” senior running back Mason Gauthier said.

Post-game morale was low but the team is putting the loss behind them and moving forward into the rest of the season. “We’ve got a lot to prove this season, we’ve got a banging offense, a banging defense, both sides of our ball works, we’re super senior strong super senior heavy,” Joslin said. With so many seniors this season it means the most to the players that they have their best season yet. “It’s our last year I mean we want to go out with a bang, you know that goes for the state championship and the people in purple so we want to do something good,” Joslin said. With big expectations for the season the team is taking it one game at a time with the next one being North Bullitt.

The North vs East game is always a big one for the football team. As one of our county rivals, it means there is even more pressure than normal to show out and take the win. “I think it’s going to be a super good game, I think it’s going to be a super fun game”, Joslin said. This year the rival between North and East is at an all-time high with senior safety Ryan Still transferring from North to East this year. “I’m expecting Ryan Still to go crazy,” Gauthier said. Hopes are high that this will be the game to turn this season around and set the team on track for a winning season.
