Wrapping Up the Regular Season and On to Districts

The Lady Chargers finished their regular season Friday, Oct 1, with a 3-1 win against Kentucky Country Day. Their season record was 9-8-1.

Throughout the season the girls have been through quite the ups and downs. Losing valuable seniors last season, the upcoming seniors knew that everyone would have to step up to make up for it. However, throughout the season many of the girls had to sit out or stay home because of injuries or COVID quarantining. The team had seven injuries in total. Luckily almost everyone has recovered except for junior Klaire Hourgian, with an ankle injury that put her in crutches. Captain Emma Wright feels that not having her is a big loss to the team, especially with districts coming up.

“Your center back is one of the biggest leaders on the field and Klaire kind of keeps us all in control and when the ball gets loose she’s back there and has it every time. We have some other people that have stepped in and helped us out a lot, but there’s still some gaps just because of inexperience,” Wright said.

So far Wright feels that the team has played a rocky season.

“It depends on the day, what team we get and when. Sometimes we’re in control and look like we know how to play soccer, and other days it looks like we kind of just forgot and don’t really want to be out there.”

The Lady Chargers play tonight Oct 5, at 5 p.m vs Whitefield Academy for the first round of the District Tournaments. Wright is unsure of how it will go but she knows that it is going to be a good game.

“It was a close game when we played them in the regular season so it honestly could go either way. I know they’re gonna come out ready to fight because they want to and this is the year if they’re ever going to get it. But I also think we can beat them. We just have to go in with the mentality that we can,” Wright said.

The Ladies play tonight at home, make sure to come out and support.
