Planning To Improve After First Loss of Season
Always putting up a strong fight.
After playing on their home field, the Chargers lost to Graves County.
The team lost the Sept. 10 game against Graves County, with a score of 48-46, Graves County. Head Coach Ethan Atchley believes they played pretty good last Friday, based on how many injured players they had. Junior Travis Egan and junior Camron Brogan have some high hopes to improve for the game.
This game was Bullitt East’s first loss of the season. The game started off with a Bullitt East touchdown, then Graves County came back with three touchdowns, bringing them into the lead, 21-7.
Graves stayed in the lead, until the fourth quarter, when Bullitt East came back and brought the score to 46-42. Then, with around two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Graves County came back with a touchdown, which ended up being the game-winning touchdown.
Atchley believes the Sept. 10 game went pretty good. “I thought offensively, we did a lot of things that were really positive. Defensively and offensively, as a whole, we got bit by the injury bug this week, with no excuse, but we were throwing in some guys that hadn’t gotten a lot of reps this week, and a few guys have tried to gut it out and just couldn’t go here early in the game, and we had to find some replacements, and I’m proud of the guys that had to step up and give us a bunch of chances, as the game went along,” Atchley said, “Well I think we put up a lot of yards, and scored a lot of points, and did some really positive things, in that asset. I felt like had some young kids step up that had to play, and we had some kids that weren’t feeling great, and were banged up, that gutted it out for four quarters out there, and gave us a chance to clinch a victory against a really good football team, but defensively, we’ve got to play better. Some of that’s going to come with continuity of having all the kids get the most practice reps when we know who’s where, who can do what, and who’s available for next week.” Atchley noticed a few highlights from the game.
For the upcoming games, Atchley plans to improve his team, by continuing to practice each and every day. “I think we’ve got to get back to work from a great week of practice. All four days matter, and we’ve got to be crisp, and we have got to understand that iron sharpens iron, and our best guys have to be consistently practicing hard, and working hard. I always read the press clippings and gut out the biggest of moments when the ball’s thrown their way, the ball’s given their way. Our guys made plays in spots, and then, a few times, their guys made plays, and that’s what happens when you play a good team, and our guys gave their hearts,” Atchley said.
Egan feels that the game against Graves County went pretty well. “I feel like we played good. We had to capitalize on a few things, but overall, we’ve come a long way, as a team,” Egan said, “Converting on third downs, and just running the ball (were some of the highlights). We did pretty good on that.” Some of the highlights from the day, in Egan’s opinion, were third downs, and running the ball.
Egan plans to improve, by capitalizing on things, for upcoming games. “Capitalizing on things, and finishing plays (would be the plan to improve for the next game),” Egan said.
Brogan feels that the game went great. “I would say we played great. We played our best game, and we bounced back. We fought all day long, and gave it our best,” Brogan said, “Defense stepped up, and got a big stop right there (was one of the highlights of the game). I would just say all game long, we fought.” There were a couple of highlights that Brogan noticed, from the day, such as the defense.
Brogan has a plan to improve, and it is by capitalizing on things, like Egan. “Capitalizing on things, and finishing plays (would be the plan to improve for the next game),” Brogan said.
The Chargers will play at home against Bullitt Central at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 17.
