You get a medal and you get a medal and you get a medal.

With the recent accomplishments of several wrestlers individually earning medals at this past weekend’s match at  the Tate’s Creek Invitational. The wrestling team is looking towards state and regionals. “We did really good considering the competition but that can never be an excuse and we can always keep on pushing to do better,” said junior Matthew Hendricks.

Senior Sean Lohden finished the tournament in second at 182 pounds. Hendricks finished in third at 152 pounds. Also finishing in third was freshmen Logan Wells at 126 pounds. Both finishing in fourth was senior Jay Smith at 145 pounds and  Bryant Faucett at 113 pounds.

To prepare for this last match the wrestling team did a lot of drills and conditioning to really better themselves when they are live wrestling in a match. When asked how this last match differed from others Hendricks replied that there was definitely better competition, and better coaching. The wrestling team will wrestle a few more competitions but regionals and state are coming up. “We’re really going to do good this year with the team that we’ve been training with,” said Hendricks.

The end goal for the wrestling team is clear with the approach of major matches. “The end goal is to get a bunch of regional champs and to have a state placer,” said Hendricks.
