Wrestling Excelling Early

The wrestling team poses with their trophy. The team had seven top four placers in their tournament. They look to build onto this success as the season goes on.

Hard work leads to big improvement.

The wrestling team competed in the King of the Bluegrass tournament Saturday, Dec. 7 and performed well.

The team had many top performers. They have made vast improvements compared to last year. They look to build off of this success.

The team had two first place finishers over the weekend. Junior Matthew Hendricks and freshman Logan Wells both placed at the top of their weight classes. Senior Noah Jewell and senior Jay Smith placed second. Eighth grader Nathaniel Goff and freshman Caleb Cowan placed third. Bryant Faucett placed fourth in his weight class.

Compared to last season, the team has already greatly improved. “Right off the bat we’ve done a lot better than last year. We only had one guy get first last year and this year we had two and we had more top four players than last year,” said junior Matthew Hendricks. The season is already looking like it will outshine the last.

This is only the beginning for the team and they are looking to push even harder. “We’re definitely not done placing because now a lot of the guys know how good it feels to win, so now they’ll definitely be striving for that even more,” said Hendricks. The team is very motivated and looks to prove themselves as the season progresses.

The wrestling team will compete in the Frankfort Duals Saturday, Dec. 14.
