Boys Golf Continuing With Pride

With practice up to five times a week comes dedication.

As the boys golf team continues to progress in their season, they have also been progressing their scores.

The boys golf team has specific steps beforehand to be well prepared. Junior Gavin Coffman has stepped up to his team and helped gain a lower score. Last week’s golf match was a success with Bullitt East scoring highest.

A typical golf match starts one to two hours earlier for the golf team that what’s listed on the schedule. During this time is when the team arrives first and then starts to warm up. They arrive earlier to have time to stretch and prepare for their match. When getting prepared for a match all the boys individually stretch to get themselves warmed up so they will all be physically ready to come together as a team to gain the winning score. Senior Aiden Robinson focuses on his strengths when practicing. “I just focus on what I haven’t been doing well on recently and those types of things. Usually, I’m playing pretty well, so whenever I’m practicing, I just practice for about five or ten minutes,” said Robinson.

Coffman just recently joined the team but he agrees that practice is all you need to improve your individual score. He also individually practices at a match before playing alongside his teammates. He predicts that their year will end out strong but that they aren’t in the best routine right now, agreeing with Coach Kyle Downs. “We are always a little bit rough around this time every year [August] but it’s the same thing every year, by the end of the season we will be able to compete in the region championship,” said Downs.

The boys golf team competed in a match on August 15 at Shadow Hollow Golf Course in Cub Run, Kentucky. Robinson leading the match with the best score of the night, a 39. Followed by Thomas Bryan (47), Gavin Coffman (50), Kyle Schuler (56) and Austin Hale (56). With all those individuals scores adding up to 192 they left with a victory and are continuing onto their next match with pride.

The next golf match is at Heritage Golf Course in Shepherdsville on Aug. 19 at 4:30.
