New Amazon Future Engineers Program

Opening up even more opportunities for students.

Another program will be added for students to start a career interest in.

Over the weekend, Bullitt East was accepted into Amazon’s Future Engineers Program. Amazon will be partnering with Edhesive to provide teacher training and curriculum using the College Board Endorsed UTeachCS program. Students will have to completely finish the course, keep at least a 3.0 GPA and get accepted into a four-year university in order to apply for a tuition scholarship of $10,000.

The program provides hands-on learning and experiences. It will challenge students to think computationally and solve complex problems. Amazon’s main goal with this program is to inspire students with all different backgrounds, races and genders to pursue computer science.

Among black and Hispanic students, those who take AP Computer Science in high school are 7-8 times more likely to take it in college. As for women, they are 10 times more likely to do so. This program is an open door for anyone who has an interest in it.

Other benefits of this course are that a future computer science major can earn 40 percent more income than the college average and computing jobs are the No.1 source of new wages in the United States. As of right now, there are around 500,000 current job openings in the computer science field.

Students do not need any background in computer science in order to take this class. This is a new opportunity for those students who enjoy or want to pursue a career in Computer Sciences. With this program, students will be opened up to new jobs and opportunities that could be the start of their future.
