Making Their Last Season Their Best Season
Senior Lady Chargers have become best friends on and off the court.
Emmy Ralph and Allie Rae Thompson are the only two seniors on the girls basketball team, and are looking forward to a successful last season.
The two athletes have been friends for as long as they can remember, from elementary school teams, to AAU leagues and now the Lady Chargers. Ralph and Thompson have had much success in their basketball careers. This upcoming season and their futures beyond high school are looking bright.
The bond that the two players share has allowed them to improve their performance on the court. “I feel like since we know each other so well…we can predict what each other is going to do,” said. Thompson.
Ralph said, “And since we’ve playing together for so long, we sort of know how each other plays.” This teamwork and coordination that the pair has developed on the court, because of their friendship off the court, has led to many accomplishments.
In the past three seasons, Ralph and Thompson have advanced to the regional game with their team. So far this season with four games already played, Thompson has averaged 1.3 points per game and Ralph is averaging 8.5 points per game.
As seniors, Ralph and Thompson are role models for their teammates. Junior Sarah Ezell said, “They both have a lot of experience in varsity games….they show our team great leadership.” Thompson has been playing varsity since her sophomore year and says that one of the best moments of her career was playing in the regional championship in 2017; Ralph has played varsity since she was a freshman.
Ralph has recently announced that she will be continuing her basketball career at Indiana University Southeast in the fall of 2019. Thompson is still unsure about her decision to keep playing basketball at the collegiate level.
