A New Plan to Make-Up the Recent Unusual Snow Day
Jack Frost is coming early this season.
As a result of an unusual snow day, the board is making their best efforts to find the most efficient date to make it up.
There has been a proposal to add an instructional day before Christmas break in order to make up the missed day in November. There have been mixed views regarding the recent proposition. This new plan is being suggested to the board.
Superintendent Jesse Bacon, as well as Bullitt County Education Association (BCEA) President Kim Ludwig, came up with the idea to add an extra instructional day before the break. This would make the last day before Christmas break Thursday, Dec. 20 instead of Wednesday, Dec. 19. Going to school that Thursday would allow for a future makeup day in February in case of future snow days.
This decision is being fueled by support from the community. Bacon and Ludwig sent out a poll to all Bullitt County faculty and staff. 50 percent were in support of the plan, while 32 percent of people were not in support and 17 percent didn’t care either way. With this information, they sent out another poll. This time, to parents, students, and community members. 71 percent were in favor, 20 percent were not and 8 percent didn’t care either way.
Because of the strong results from the polls, Bacon and Ludwig are recommending to the board that they adjust the 2018-2019 school calendar to make Thursday, Dec. 20 an instructional day. This will be presented this evening at the meeting. The county will be updated once a decision is made.
