BCPS New Superintendent Announced

The beginning of a journey for Jesse Bacon.

The search for a new superintendent for Bullitt County Schools is over.

The board of education held a special meeting on Feb. 22 to name the next superintendent. Four candidates were interviewed for the job. After a closed session the board of education selected Jesse Bacon.

The four finalists included BCPS assistant superintendent Becky Sexton, current Oldham County assistant superintendent Willie Foster, Matthew Shane Baker, Director of district-wide programs for Greenup County Schools and William Jesse Bacon, principal of Simons Middle School in Flemingsburg.

“The selection of the superintendent to lead our district is a very detailed process. It takes many hours of hard work and dedication,” said board member Debby Atherton. According to Atherton, each candidate had specific strengths and professional quality, making the board’s decision very difficult.

Each member of the screening committee was introduced and thanked for their hard work. “They served such a critical role in the selection process. They spent a lot of time recommending applicants to the board,” said Atherton. The members of the committee are Darrell Coleman, Troy Wood, Susan Vincentz, Lee Barger, Janie Payne, Brian Barnett and Catherine McMillan.

Bacon’s position as superintendent will begin on July 1. A contract of approval will be presented at the next monthly meeting.
