All around school efforts are being made to support Marshall County high school.

As many know, a school shooting occurred at Marshall County high school last Tuesday morning. Seventeen students were injured, and two were killed. Bullitt East is supporting Marshall County High School by selling Marshall strong T-shirts.

A 15-year-old gunman opened fire at the school injuring several and killing two fifteen-year-olds; a boy and a girl. The shooting hits close to home, especially since two kids of the Bullitt East alumni Scott Cosner were injured in the shooting.

Engineering teacher Darrell Vincent graduated with Cosner and was also his roommate in college. “Momma Jo and Miss Misti approached me about selling shirts for the Cosner family when they found out my relationship to them. I am so appreciative of them for taking this on and working with the students here.   Bullitt East is a very special place that we sometimes take for granted. I have never been more proud of this school, its staff and students, for their kindness and thinking of others in their time of need. A small effort on our part has made tremendous positive impact. Bullitt Central also participated with us and donated 100 shirts for us to sell. I am so proud to live in Bullitt County,” said Vincent.

The shooting affected the victims and their families in more ways than one. As one can imagine, the hospital bills for the victims will be extremely high. Two faculty members came up with the idea of selling shirts that supported marshall county to help the Cosner’s family with the cost of the bills. “It was a collaborative effort. Joe Bohannon at A Plus made it happen,” said Administrative Assistant, Jo Perkins. All money made from the shirts go directly to the family of the alumni.

Many students bought the shirts and wore them to the homecoming game last Friday. This act of love and support meant the world to the Cosner family. “I will tell you that the support shown by the staff and students last week has made a profound impact on the Cosner family. When I told Scott about the shirts and the fact that the students wanted to change the Friday homecoming theme to Orange in honor of the families at Marshall county he was overwhelmed,” said Vincent.

Vincent also sent pictures of the shirts and students at the game to Cosner. “When I started sending him pictures he said: ‘Tell all of those kids they are amazing. I love that place (Bullitt East). Tell everyone that we love them to death, Beth (Scott’s wife) and I can’t stop crying,” said Vincent.

Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt asked all Kentucky students to wear blue and orange Friday, Feb. 2 in support of Marshall County.
