Train Derailment in Washington
South of Seattle in Pierce County, Washington a train has come off its tracks. There are multiple fatalities from passengers on the train, but none from the vehicles struck. The causes of this tragic event are unknown.
An Amtrak high speed passenger train was in route from Seattle to Portland when it derailed onto Interstate 5, below the tracks. Several vehicles were struck and injuries have been reported from the road, but no fatalities. Some of the train is reported to be dangling from the tracks onto the road, and other parts of the train are thrown all around the tracks in different conditions.
There were 78 passengers on the train and 5 crew members; there have been 77 people transported to local hospitals. The train came off the tracks after taking a curve over three times more than the recommended speed limit.
President Trump has tweeted about this incident and will give a speech within the next hour outlining his national security strategy.
For family members of passengers on the train, they are being asked to go to DuPont City Hall and to not come to the accident scene.
