Lady Bird Movie Review

“Lady Bird” finally blows up.

The movie Lady Bird which was released on Nov. 3 did not gain much attention until early December, but now it is playing in movie theaters all around the country.

The mother daughter love story, “Lady Bird,” is filled with a very talented cast. Its plot is so fresh and unique it makes it stand out from any other movie. When it all is put together, Lady Bird is one of the best movies to come out in 2017.

“Lady Bird” was directed by Greta Gerwig in her solo directing debut. She has co-directed a few other films, but this one is all her. The “Lady Bird” cast is lead by Saoirse Ronan who plays the main character Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson. The cast also includes Laurie Metcalf as Christine’s mother, Timothee Chalamet as Kyle Scheible, Odeya Rush as Jenna Walton and Lucas Hedges as Danny O’Neil. This very strong cast put together a very great movie.

The plot of “Lady Bird” isn’t like most movies that focus on a girl. Christine doesn’t fall in love like most girls do in movies. Christine who prefers everyone call her “Lady Bird” spends her time navigating through high school and looking for a college to attend. With Christine and her mother being drastically different it causes them to argue constantly. Also the private school that she attends is very strict on her but the movie doesn’t focus on those negatives, it tries to stay positive, that’s what makes this movie so good and unique.

“Lady Bird” was written and acted strongly that it makes you feel invested in the characters almost to the point where you no longer feel it’s a movie. Also the way Gerwig started some of the scenes makes the movie even better. Gerwig made her scenes just kind of begin, they don’t feel like they had a natural beginning. For instance scenes begin in the middle of a conversation so it makes you wonder what was happening before, but then you’re already observing the moment they are in now. That’s why “Lady Bird” is one of the best movies of 2017.

“Lady Bird” gets a 10/10 rating.
