Annual Veteran’s Day Assembly at Bullitt East

On and off duty veterans were honored on their special day.

Bullitt East students and staff gather in gym to recognize the men and women who fought for our country. The choir performed the National Anthem and veterans themselves shared words of wisdom.

To kick off the ceremony, the veterans were welcomed in with much applause. Following the flag being carried in by our JROTC students, our very own choir sang the National Anthem.

Sergeant McGlasson, also JROTC teacher, introduced the ceremony. McGlasson welcomed our veterans and shed light on the significance of Veteran’s Day. He also welcomed the following speaker, Major John T. Hourigan.

Hourigan, a Kentucky National Air Guard member, spoke on topics such as patriotism, his experiences, giving thanks to veterans, and more. “The sun wakes you up and you’re not going back to sleep until the sun goes down,” says Hourigan on his deployment experience in the desert. Hourigan recognizes the hard work and effort veterans have put forth.

McGlasson closed the ceremony with commenting on Hourigans achievements and awards, such as Air Force Commendation and Distinguished graduate C-130 pilot. The veterans then exited the gym to meet with family in the library.
