Cleveland Takes a Hard Fall
Cavaliers fall flat on their face in the pre-season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers begin the NBA season with an 0-4 record in the pre-season.
With many signings and trades in the off-season, the cavaliers were expected to be the NBA’s star team this year, but the pre season is showing their weaknesses. The Cavaliers also acquired many All-star players such as Isaiah Thomas, Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade as well as good players to go on their bench such as Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Jeff Green. The Cavaliers are going into this NBA season after losing in the 2017 NBA finals to the Golden State Warriors and after losing multiple All-star Player Kyrie Irving in a trade with the Boston Celtics.
In the first game of the pre-season, the Cavaliers fell to the Atlanta Hawks with the Hawks winning 109-93. With Lebron being benched for the pre-season, Cleveland’s season is looking rough. Cleveland also proceeded to lose to the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. Even with Lebron and Isaiah Thomas being unable to play, it is inexcusable to why Cleveland lost to teams such as the Bulls, Pacers and Hawks considering the neither of the teams have a star player after this offseason. While as cleveland even without James and Thomas have a decent starting five and arguably the best bench in the NBA.
Over the offseason Cleveland made many moves to try and improve their team. After the NBA Free Agency came to a close, it seemed that the Cavaliers were ending their off season with just signing a 36-year-old Jose Calderon. This caused debates of whether Cleveland was going to be able to compete with the new founded “super” teams that were formed in the NBA off-season, such as the Timberwolves, Celtics, Rockets and Thunder. The Cavaliers then proceeded to sign multiple time All-star and 2011 NBA MVP Derrick Rose. Then proceeded to trade away one of their star players Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Celtics’ star Isaiah Thomas, starting forward Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the 2018 first round Brooklyn Nets pick. The Cavaliers ended their offseason acquiring multiple time All-star and three time NBA champion Dwyane Wade.
The 2017 NBA finals saw Cleveland lose 1-4 to the Golden State Warriors which gave Kevin Durant his first championship. The Cavaliers are highly predicted to play the Warriors again in the Finals but being 0-4 in the preseason is making it hard to think that Cleveland will be able to make it to the Finals this season. The Warriors are also having a rough pre-season going 1-2.
