The King of the Fourth
Isaiah Thomas makes a huge jump in the league.
Thomas is one of the league leaders in scoring and is helping to lead the Celtics to being one of the top teams in the east.
Boston Celtics starting point guard Thomas was named eastern conference player of the month for January and is making a case for MVP (most valuable player) votes. Thomas is recording stats that have led the Boston Celtics to second in the eastern conference. Thomas’ stats are some of the highest for 5-foot players. His stats are comparable to Iverson in his prime.
One player that should be in the running for MVP is Isaiah Thomas. Thomas’ 29.9 PPG (points per game) has led the celtics to the number 2 spot in the east behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. His offensive skills have put him to the second spot in scoring for the league behind Russell Westbrook. Thomas, James Harden and Westbrook are easily the three best guards in the league but only Harden and Westbrook are the only two players in the running for MVP.
Thomas recieved Eastern Conference player of the month after an incredible month of play. Thomas recorded 32.9 PPG for the month of january which is the 4th highest in Boston Celtics history. These stats are behind Celtics legends Larry Bird and Paul Pierce who hold the one, two and three spot for Celtics history for highest point averages for a month. Thomas has had three 40 point games and one 50 point game.
Iverson’s stats are very comparable to Thomas’ stats in the 2016-17 season. Iverson won the season MVP for the 2000-01 season averaging 31.1 PPG, 2.5 SPG (steals per game), 4.6 APG (assist per game), and 3.8 RPG (rebounds per game). Isaiah thomas has averaged 29.9 PPG, 0.9 SPG, 6.4 APG, and 2.6 RPG. Iverson won MVP for the 2000-01 season but Thomas is not even considered as a candidate for MVP when the stats are very close to each other. Thomas has been put back in the MVP runnings due to other talent such as harden and westbrook putting up stats that have not been seen for over 20 years. Westbrook is currently averaging a triple-double and may be the first player to do so since Oscar Robertson. Harden has lead the Houston Rockets to one of the top teams in the west almost single handedly.
