“4 Your Eyez Only” Album Review

31 year old rapper, Jermaine Cole dropped his fourth album “4 Your Eyez Only” last week and people are crazy about it. The album serves more as a storytelling album than his previous works, but definitely has a few hype songs thrown in as well.

The album starts off with “For Whom the Bells Toll” where the speculation of who the story is about starts. Some theories suggest that the album is about J. Cole himself and others think that it is from his friend’s point of view.

The second song “Immortal” is a flat-out banger. With a catchy chorus this song makes for the perfect pump up song, or the ultimate car ride song.

The third song on the track list, “Deja Vu” is a remix of Louisville native, Bryson Tiller’s “Exchange” from his album “T R A P S O U L”. Fans of Tiller are torn deciding which version they prefer.

Up next is “Ville Mentality” which is a major part of the story featuring a monologue from a little girl talking about her father and how he died because his friend set him up. “She’s Mine, Pt 1” is an emotional, slower song where Cole talks about the first time he fell in love.

Following is “Change”, a semi-spiritual song talking about a near death experience and Cole’s thoughts on religion.

The next song, “Neighbors” accompanies “Immortal” as being a very high energy song. This song has boosted bass and makes for a great beat coming over the aux.

The next song “Foldin Clothes” is a love song where Cole talks about how he wants to settle down and make his woman happy. Another major part of the album’s story comes from “She’s Mine, Pt. 2” where Cole, in a soft, slow voice raps about falling in love again. This time there is a baby crying in the background of the song. It tells about how Cole is stopping all his ways to go out on his kid and the way he feels around her.

The album ends with the eight minute and 50 second song, “4 Your Eyez Only” which concludes the story. This album has done incredibly so far. It is currently blowing away the competition as the number one album on iTunes, topping “Starboy” by the Weeknd and the Pentatonix Christmas album.

With this album Cole could possibly achieve what no one but himself has in the past 25 years. His third album“2014 Forest Hills Drive” went double platinum with no features and with his fourth album Cole could possibly do it again.
