Attaboy Assembly

Attaboy, Jackson and Jamar!

On Tuesday afternoon, Charger Nation was introduced to a local band from Indiana known as Attaboy.

Created in 1994, the band consists of four members (Jeff, Ryan, Melanie, and Christian) who travel on tour to not only perform their own original songs, but a few covers from well known musicians. Recently, Attaboy performed at local schools around the Bullitt County area including East, Bullitt Central, and Eastside Middle School.

While Attaboy’s intentions are to create a fun and friendly concert for each community they perform at, their main goal is teach people to care about each other and promote a message through their music that kindness in the world can go a long way. ¨Music is the universal language, everyone can relate to it and at the same time we have all been positively influenced by it. By doing this show, this gives us a chance to pay it forward. We hope to not only entertain our crowd, but also positively influence them,¨ said Ryan, lead singer of Attaboy.

Attaboy doesn’t only just perform at schools, they go on tour internationally and play their own original music. Attaboy played mainly cover songs at the assembly on Tuesday, however, they played a couple of their own songs one entitled “Everything Matters”. The theme of this song, and well, the tour in a whole is to make a point that students and people all over the world should make the choices they want to make, and to do what makes them happy.

The student body and staff of East have been working hard to create a more positive influenced environment around the community, with new events and twitter accounts such as the @bepositive twitter page. Many believe the connection between BE Positive and Attaboy’s performance can make a significant difference. ¨A big reason I thought this band would be great for our schools was because I saw the BE Positive account, and Friends of Rachel and the things that they are doing, I thought it would be a good addition to what is happening here,¨ said East principal, Mr. Huber.

During the concert, the band incorporated a dance off between student volunteers that included seniors Jackson Payne and Jamar Douglas, that Payne successfully took first place in. A teacher dance off was also included between Mr. Steinmetz, Mr. Fulghum, Mrs. Speakman, Mrs. Stobaugh, and Ms. Darnell. This aspect of the assembly got all of the students cheering and spreading positivity.

Attaboy plans to continue touring different states, cities, and schools, including flying international to perform. ¨We have one more off day on Sunday, and in a week we are flying out to Denmark for a three week tour. We are really excited about this,” said Ryan.

Not only did the band perform at East during the afternoon at an assembly, but later performed a formal concert at 7:00 p.m. for interested parents and students. This concert was completely free, and had a successful turnout from the community.
