Emotional, spiritual, lyrical genius.

Hip-Hop artist, Mac Miller released a new album on September 16th, 2016.

Mac Miller’s new album is comprised entirely of love songs, which is very rare in the Hip-Hop/Rap industry. Miller’s album includes ten songs and features seven different artists. In addition to the rareness of the subject in the album, “The Divine Feminine” consists of two eight minute long songs as well.

Rumor has it, Miller and Ariana Grande have a lingering romance, which may have sparked Miller’s soft side in his new album. It’s very rare for a Hip-Hop artist to dedicate an entire album to love songs. Also, Miller’s album is infused with touches of gospel and R&B, making the mood relaxed and groovy. “I’m a fan of Mac’s new album. It shows a new side to him and his views,” said Grayson Payne, senior at Bullitt East.

Miller isn’t exactly known for his “love songs”, in fact he is known for his lyrical abilities. “Miller’s lyrics really help tie together the romantic outlook of every song,” said Amber McNutt, senior at Bullitt East. For example, Miller’s big hit in 2011, “Donald Trump,” is based off of Miller’s lyrical flow. People who are more into Miller’s raps should check out “Cinderella” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) in “The Divine Feminine.” This song resembles Miller’s flow in “Donald Trump.”

However, Miller’s songs “My Favorite Part” (feat. Ariana Grande) and “Skin” show a new side to Miller. They both represent a groovy and laid back style. Anyone who listens to Miller, knows his flow is fast. These songs are the opposite of that. The best way to connect these songs are with Miller’s song “Doors” in his album “GO:OD AM” released in 2015.

Artists featured in “The Divine Feminine” are Bilal, Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla $ign, Njomza, CeeLo Green, Ariana Grande, and Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick Lamar happens to feature in one of the eight minute long songs, that song being “God Is Fair, Sexy Nasty.” “Kendrick is an excellent artist so I like it, they are a great collaboration,” said Payne. The other eight minute song is “Cinderella” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign).

Mac Miller’s new album is one to check out. It shows a different side to him, features many new artists, and is very unique.
