It’s time to step onto the mound and take a swing.
The 2025 season for Bullitt East Baseball is underway, and the newly renovated Jeff Bowles Field brings a fresh look. Games are underway, and the team continues to improve each time they take the field. With the goal in mind of reaching and winning the state tournament, the Chargers are striving to win big every game.
“Our grit is definitely what separates us from the other teams,” senior third baseman Connor Sauss said. “We can be down 5-0 and still find a way to claw back and get the win”.
Sauss loves how close the team chemistry is and how well they all get along. In the mornings, the team gets breakfast together and hangs with each other before school. His team goals include winning the region and making it to state, and personal goals include batting above .330 with less than 5 errors. In practices, they heavily focus on communication and making sure everyone knows where to be at certain times. Through this, there’s lots of trust built throughout the entire program.
“We all fight for each other day in and day out; we want to win,” senior center fielder Jack Willard said.
The team’s grit and determination are key to their success, and they’re driven to win with dedication and spirit. Willard’s personal goal includes breaking the current school stolen base record of 33, and his team goal is to win state. During practice, the team focuses a lot on defense to reduce the amount of errors. Each practice, problems are reduced and performances are improved.
“Every day, I go in ready to attack and be coachable,” senior left/center fielder Chase Meredith said.
Meredith brings lots of energy and he has a lot of fun through everything. Throughout all his life, he was around the sport and his dad introduced it to him. Some days are hard and others are easy, but he’s willing to come in every day and do his part to not only succeed as a player/person but also help his team succeed.
The baseball team definitely has a bright season ahead of them, with big goals in mind. Through every practice and game, they rely on each other and play strong with tons of fight. Currently, they’re undefeated at 6-0, following their recent huge 5-4 win over DeSales on March 27 in 8 innings. With the main goals of winning region and state in mind, there is no looking back.
Now, it’s time to hit the gas, lock in, and make a statement. This brotherhood is ready to dominate as the season progresses
