That’s a wrap, until next year.
Heading into the postseason, Bullitt East’s Football team has come so far. With an overall score of 6-5. The team still has so much more to learn from. Tegan Heilman was a senior who played both guard and offensive line. “We underestimated teams that we should’ve had, and that’s why we got beat.” Tegan Heilman said.
From taking many wins and losses from Mercer County to Ballard, the team has gotten so much better and closer. Alec Britt, one of the seniors on the team, missed his sophomore year playing football and then returned to Football his junior year. “I didn’t like being away from the team at all. It’s like my family.” Britt said.
Jacob Clancy, a senior who played Safety, CB, and receiver this year. “Just kind of like an improvement.” Clancy said. From putting in long
hours in the blazing heat to an emotional rollercoaster during Senior night. “Senior night was like an emotional time. You know, it will be the last home game of my football career.” Britt said.
The seniors’ departure this year has definitely had an impact on everyone on the team. From being just a first-year player all the way to seeing the faces of the people that they’ll be leaving this year to taking their last step on the field at Bullitt East, it was an emotional ride.
There have been some moments when the seniors or anybody has thought about quitting, but their love for the sport keeps them motivated to keep playing. “Football is, you know, got that love-hate relationship. So I think every football player has wanted to quit at some point. But we never do that. We love the sport too much. It’s just usually those thoughts come after a hard practice. Or, you know, us being tough on ourselves.” Britt said.
“I’ve thought about quitting, you get burnt out, you play a long season but the end result, playing the games makes you want to keep playing.” Clancy said. Despite the hard work you put in, the sweat and tears that have been shed, it’s the moments that they’ve all shared that made it more exciting to be part of the team. “Just keep going no matter how hard it gets, just keep going, look to the future and not the past,” Heilman said.
The senior’s most exciting game has to be the game against Male, despite the loss they took that day. The players were hyped just to be a part of it, to show them what we’re capable of. As the months go by, we can prepare ourselves for the next time we play against them. “Don’t let every game, every practice go to your heart. It’s like, don’t leave any regrets or have anything left, like, always give it your all.” Britt said.
Now as we move on to the next seasons of Football, the team can learn and improve so much more from the experiences that they’ve learned this year. As they grow into an even better team and bond more with each other as the long hours and hot days come by. And when the off-season flies by, we’ll have better expectations from the team and they’ll push even harder than this year. “I mean, I used to think the older people saying, like, these years are gonna fly by, I just thought it was something that everybody says, but like, they truly fly by, like I’m sitting here as a senior, like remembering my freshman year, like it was a week ago. So it really does fly by so make sure you embrace it and take it in while you’re still young.” Britt said.
