There are several new sports programs that are starting this year that a lot of people don’t know about: Boys Volleyball, to be specific.
Most people haven’t even heard about Boys Volleyball. Many of the guys at Bullitt East would love to play. When East has their pep-rally with rocket balls there are a lot of guys from all grades who sign up to play for that and they have so much fun with that. When asked if they would be interested in trying out for Boys Volleyball many said, “Yes, I love it when we play rocket ball, which is Boys Volleyball essentially, and if I could play more than just once a year at a pep-rally that would be awesome!”
Sign-ups for participating in playing Rocketball in our pep-rally on Friday, September 27, 2024, are up now. Rocketball plays on two separate days, one at the end of the school day and one after school. They play after school on Tuesday, September 24 at 5:30 P.M. and then also on that Friday during the pep-rally at the end of the day.
One of the main problems that were run into while asking male students and female students at East, was that not a lot of people knew that this potentially could be a new sports program added this year at East for students to try out for.
There are still debates and meetings happening about Boys Volleyball. KHSAA has said, “Any school not currently playing but will be fielding a team in the spring of 2025 in KHSAA-sanctioned play should also go in and add the team to its listing as well.” If Bullitt East decides to put out that there will be a Boy’s Volleyball team that won’t even begin until the spring of next year.
When senior at Bullitt East Austin Jones was asked if he would want to join the Boy’s Volleyball team he quoted, “It would be cool for my senior year before I leave here”. Jones has done baseball and football here and thinks it’s so cool to have another boy’s sport to try out for. Also just to have an even bigger variety of sports.
If this program goes well this year, it could easily turn into something really special for Bullitt East. This could definitely grow and turn into a great thing here.
