The curtain opens on the new era of Bullitt East theater.
Megan Tooley has launched a new drama club at Bullitt East, meeting every Wednesday in Room 302. The club is open to all students and aims to foster friendships while enhancing theater skills. Members of the Bullitt East theater community have found the club both enjoyable and engaging.
Tooley, a new teacher at Bullitt East, not only teaches sophomore English but also oversees the drama club. There are no specific requirements to join the club, except for one: “This is a no-judgment zone,” Tooley said. Meetings are held every Wednesday in Tooley’s classroom, Room 302.
Tooley has big plans for the club’s future and upcoming activities. At the inaugural meeting, students participated in various games, including improvisation exercises and name-learning games. “If you come in without any friends, you will make friends there. You don’t have to know anyone to join,” Tooley said. As Halloween approaches, many students are excited about learning special effects makeup.
Overall, students enjoyed the first meeting. “Everyone was really nice and welcoming, and I felt like I could really be myself and have fun. No one was judgmental, so I never felt embarrassed,” Ray Abell said. Students met new peers and many plan to attend future meetings.
Tooley encourages everyone to participate. “We are super welcoming, even if you have no experience. If you’ve never acted a day in your life, that’s awesome. That’s totally fine. You don’t need any past theater experience; it’s a very safe, special place where we’ll do lots of cool things,” Tooley said.
