Katya Straman brings both her experience as an English teacher and her background in counseling to Bullitt East. 

Straman, the newest member of Bullitt East High School, is a seasoned educator with a background in English teaching and a degree in counseling. Her unique combination of skills positions her to not only teach but also support students’ emotional and personal growth. Drawn to Bullitt East by its strong sense of community and commitment to student development, Straman is eager to contribute to an environment that prioritizes both academic success and well-being.

Reflecting on her past experience, Straman said, “I was a high school English teacher for five years, working with freshmen and juniors.” Her time in the classroom has given her valuable insights into the highs and lows of high school education. “High school just feels like a natural fit for me,” she added, emphasizing her comfort and passion for working with teenagers.

In her new role at Bullitt East, Straman’s skills are perfectly aligned with her responsibilities. “I have a counseling degree, so the job I have now is like an in-between,” she said. This position allows her to support students not only academically but also emotionally, helping them navigate their personal lives.
