The Bullitt East community is growing faster than ever.
Stephen Crepps has recently joined the Bullitt East staff as a new assistant principal.
Crepps had many reasons for why he decided to transition to Bullitt East. Preparing for the school year was a different experience than what he was used to. Crepps has valuable advice for students at Bullitt East.
“I started as a career and technical education teacher; I later decided I wanted to have a broader impact on student outcomes,” Crepps said. Crepps wanted more from his career than teaching. He not only wanted to help students achieve success in school, but he also wanted to pave the way for their future. He believes that by taking on the role of assistant principal, he has more tools to push students to strive for success.
“I admired their strong traditions and culture and the variety of student choices in programs,” Crepps said. Crepps believes that firm traditions and having a sense of culture are important for a school to maintain. Once he saw that Bullitt East was adamant about these ideas, he knew it was the school for him. Crepps was also very impressed with the number of choices students had with programs at Bullitt East, feeling that by having more options, students could be better prepared for the future.
“Preparation for the beginning of the school year felt entirely different. Rather than preparing a classroom for students, I was helping support an entire staff and school to prepare for students,” Crepps said. While being a teacher, Crepps only needed to prepare for students. Now, as an assistant principal, he had to take on the bigger task of supporting staff and getting the school ready for the year. Managing these tasks was not easy, but while helping the staff, he realized he would not be alone in making the school the best it could be for everyone. Crepps reminded himself that he was doing this to better his career and lead students to greatness.
“Provide support wherever it is needed to create an unrivaled student experience,” Crepps said. Crepps wants students to know that one of the best ways to excel in school is by improving in the areas that require it. By putting support and time into things you struggle with in school, Crepps believes that you can overcome those struggles, leading to a more efficient experience.
