Bullitt East´s newest teacher enjoys all things humor, and laughing is one of the things she loves most.
Mary Allgood has recently joined the mathematics department in second hall.
Allgood began her career in education as a substitute teacher before becoming a full-time educator. She employs a firm yet engaging teaching method and enjoys challenging both herself and her students.
Originally a stay-at-home mom, Allgood began her career in education as a substitute teacher. Over time, she developed a deep passion for teaching. “I knew that I wanted to be in the classroom and I wanted to be involved with students,” said Allgood.
Allgood has always had a passion for mathematics, which encouraged her to seek a profession in the subject. Determined to become a teacher, she returned to college to earn her degree. Throughout her career, she has taught students in grades six through nine, including students who need math intervention. Bullitt East’s community reputation encouraged her to teach at the school “It just feels like it has a nice, exciting buzz to it, and so I was very eager to be a part of that and be a part of this community,” said Allgood.
Allgood describes herself as a family-and-friend-oriented person who enjoys spending time with those she cares about and values. Her classroom provides a stern yet humorous environment, offering a comfortable place for her students. “I try to just promote a positive community. Make sure that everybody feels welcomed and they know that they can talk to me about anything and that everyone belongs,” said Allgood.
Allgood has experienced many challenges within the school system today, the main challenge being the lack of parental support for students. “I think there’s a lot of pressure on students these days to figure out what they want to do immediately, and I think just take a breath and realize that things can change at any moment. Just kind of know what your passion is, and let that passion be the drive that pushes you towards what you want to do,” said Allgood
