The Lady Chargers tennis team has been working hard through their regional tournament.
Their first games of the tournament were rescheduled and moved due to dangerous weather the week of May 5, but that has not stopped the team from performing well during regionals.
Tessa Tibone and Liz Swift won both of their first regional doubles matches against Iroquois 6-0 on May 9 and continued to beat Whitefield on that day with both scores 6-0. During the quarterfinals of the tournament on May 13, Emma Wallace and Avery Wasinger defeated rival Mercy with the scores of both matches being 6-1 and 6-4,Sadly, Tibone and Swift lost to J-Town. The next day, on May 14, Wallace and Wasinger lost to Bullitt Central 6-2 and 6-0. “Our team has worked very hard, and put in a lot of hard work to get this far in regionals. Everyone has performed very well and done their best,” Wallace said.
In terms of singles matches, Kennedy Scott is still in the tournament. She won against Iroquois on May 9 with both scores being 6-1 and later won against J-Town on May 13 with the same score. She continued to win against Mercy on May 14 with the scores of the matches being 6-3 and 6-4. She will continue onto the finals on May 15 against J-Town. Paige Halbrook also persisted strongly through the tournament after victories against Fairdale and Iroquois but lost in the semifinals.
“As the season is coming to an end and most of the team is out of individual regionals it gives me hope for us to come back even stronger and win for team regionals. Being a senior, it’s really bittersweet playing in regionals because I know my last season is coming to an end,” Tibone said.
Scott will play May 15 against J-Town in the regional finals at 4 p.m.
