The girls tennis team closed out their regular season with a 5-0 win against LaRue County on May 2 with singles wins by Kennedy Scott, Lily Smith, and Paige Halbrook. Two days prior on April 30, they had a 3-2 win against rival Bullitt Central with singles wins by Smith and Halbrook. They also had a 3-3 tie against Ballard on April 29.
Regular season rivalry matches are vital in preparing for regionals. “Playing Mercy and Bullitt Central was really beneficial because those are people you’re gonna have to play in region so you get a feel for that and also those are both competitive and intense matches which prepares you for regions,” Scott said.
The team is feeling mostly confident for their regional matches. “I feel very confident about regionals, not just myself but with the whole team. I think as long as we keep up the momentum and keep doing our best we’ll have a good setup for state,” sophomore Liz Swift said. Although the dates for regionals starting have been moved around due to weather issues, the team’s motivation has not faltered.
They will play their first round of regionals at Mercy on May 9.
