Changes are no issue for this year’s track team.
The track team is preparing for their 2024 season. Practices have just started and the team has learned and grown together during the preseason, while also still having fun and encouraging others. As of now, the team has been in good shape and feels ready to take on any challenges. The Bullitt East track team is ready to show their skills at the races.
“There would be times where we would stay longer after practice to help others when they’re needed,” sophomore track student Jamariya Johnson said. Teamwork is essential for the team’s success, and many like Johnson have both trained physically on the track and emotionally with others to ensure that they are in their best mindset before the season starts.
“The team has been growing rapidly, and everyone does their part,” Johnson said. This year’s track team is significantly larger than previous years, which has further enforced the idea of teamwork and encouragement among the team. The new set of freshmen has had promise for Johnson, and a new atmosphere has been created because of the new group of kids that joined, and the team is overall optimistic about their performance for the year, even with another large change that the team had during pre-season.
“I love the new track, even if we can’t use the bathroom as much anymore,” Johnson said. Because of the renovations done around the school, the team had to move farther away from the school onto a new track field, only a couple minutes of walking away. The new track has done nothing to lead the team forward in its change in environment.
“We want to ultimately win and break school records,” Johnson said. She cites Landon Talley and Jacob Clancy as some of the most promising runners on the team and expresses excitement for the attitude of the coaches of the year. The team is confident in their performances of the year, and no matter what school they will be up against, Johnson believes that there is never zero chance that the team will pull through anytime during the season.
