New Volleyball Coach
From the softball field to the volleyball court, Hoffman has it all.
Coach Ricky Hoffman is the new head volleyball coach at Bullitt East.
Hoffman is taking over for Ed Fisher after seeing a post from the athletics department. “I love volleyball and I do love softball as well but I have played volleyball all my life; I’ve coached it when I was younger and I’ve always wanted to coach it here at Bullitt East,” said Hoffman.
Hoffman coaches softball here at Bullitt East and the two seasons will not overlap. “Volleyball is in the fall and softball is in the spring,” said Hoffman. He also coaches the bowling team.
This is a change for the volleyball players, but coach Hoffman is ready and excited for the upcoming season. “[I’m excited about] getting started, we got a group of girls coming back and I’ve seen them all play and I’m just excited to get started,” said Hoffman.
Hoffman has experience coaching volleyball. “Actually my first coaching job in volleyball was when I was in high school because they didn’t have high school volleyball in Florida and my middle school coach wanted me to come help him coach when I got into high school and I did that for four years; in between playing football, basketball, and baseball in high school. When I got into college and I had to quit playing football, I started a men’s club volleyball team at University of the Cumberlands, and I was part of the first coaching staff that started a women’s volleyball team,” said Hoffman.
The team met with the new coach Tuesday May 31. Athletic Director, Troy Barr, congratulated Hoffman after the meeting and talked about the upcoming season. The volleyball season starts in August. Although the coach is a new face to the team, they all have one common goal- to beat Mercy and make it to state.
